This was Corinne’s book for January as part of the #12booksin12months reading challenge.
“I chose this book as I’d seen great reviews for one of her other books. But as it was a recent book it was still quite expensive to buy in both book and Kindle. So I thought I’d try one of her earlier books – Rubbernecker, which had won the Old Peculiar Crime Novel Award 2014.
“This book wouldn’t be everyone’s ‘cup of tea’. Think Patricia Cornwell’s Scarpetta series combined with Graeme Simpson’s The Rosie Project. Both books I have enjoyed reading, so I was off to a great start! Initially, I really enjoyed the quirky and dark nature of the book and felt quite involved with the characters, especially Patrick who has Asperger’s.
“Unfortunately, towards the end things became a little far-fetched and unbelievable. I was left with a ‘yes, but what about’ feeling. However, this has not put me off as I really enjoyed 75% of the book. It also made me think about a number of difficult subjects – particularly Locked-In Syndrome. I will definitely read her latest book, The Beautiful Dead.”
